OUR Purpose

For the LORD hears the cries of the needy; he does not despise his imprisoned people. – Psalm 69:33.

Tough on Crime‘ translates to security and comfort in the minds of many, but the approach has had a hand in creating mass incarceration, and it can be argued that purely punitive approaches lend themselves to high rates of recidivism as well as poor prison staff and resident relations.

WITS’ objective is not to criticize a system, a view or a way of thinking, but rather to share what currently exists, explore what happens when a different approach is taken, and continue to explore alternatives. This objective is intended to be in the best interests of humanity, the future neighbors of people who live in prison, prison staff, law enforcement and others, not just prison residents.
