Visitation

At a visit the other day
His little girl asked him
If he would come to her play…

He felt as though he’d cry
If he looked into her eyes
So he had to turn away…

He didn’t mean to lie
But said that he would try
Because he didn’t know what else to say…

She had just turnt five
And couldn’t understand why
He would lie to her that way…

But with time, she would come to realize
It was because he died inside
Each and every day.
